Isn’t it sad and strange that Berry Gordy was not a part of this?
'n'obel price to all motown sound
Putin that my father relatives contact me. Any way ill go back to holy land every one in the world dream Israël
This was so sad. All that talent.
Those drums that always started Motown tracks. Brilliant.
🎉❤🎉óĺa mi amor mio🎉❤
I have the DVD. I’ve watched at at least 20 times. Great story, great men.
Marc Anthony playing some evil thug high school student is so funny😮😅. By the way, if i do my math right, he was 28 years old playing a high school kid when that movie was made🤣🤣
Saw the Funk Bros. tour in 2004 at the Keswick in Glenside, PA. Met Bob Babbitt after the show, he was standing outside their bus. I'm a bass player so I asked him about his unusual looking amp with tiny speakers. He said it was a Phil Jones and that he loved it. I have an autographed photo of them. The only one left today is Ashford. I am grateful to them and to Allan Slutsky who put it all together. I grew up listening to Motown and that part of my life is gone forever (parents died, house sold) but the music is one of the few parts of my childhood that lives on forever so for that reason I feel very nostalgic about it.
That was a great show. The Funk Bros also played the Prince Theatre in Philly that year
Standing in the shadows of Motown is my favorite documentary hands down!
❤
So is it around to watch . I didnt hear no name
Anyone know the name of the songs in this video?
♡
It is so sad and too bad the members of the Funk Brothers are no longer with us. They were the blood and lifeline of Motown that made its music terrific. The were the spirit of America. Also, it is sad to know that some of these Brothers lived despondent lives. These Brothers died very young.
To call them, “The Elite of The Elite,” would be an understatement!!! It’s amazing how God, destiny, time, circumstances, whatever you want to call it, brings certain people together for a designated period in time, to make a mark in this world that will stand the test of time!! We’ll never see the likes of them again. God rest the ones gone before, and bless them that remain.
Watched this film many years ago, absolutely loved it!!!
I AM SO VERY, VERY “GRATEFUL” TO EACH “ FUNK BROTHER” FOR THE MOST AMAZING & ETERNAL “ MOTOWN SOUND” THEY CREATED. THIS MUSIC IS IN MY HEART, MY SOUL & MY CONSCIOUSNESS FOREVER AND EVER. I LOVED THE DOCUMENTARY FILM “ STANDING IN THE SHADOWS OF MOTOWN”, A FILM THAT RECOGNISED EACH ONE. OF THEM & THAT GAVE US A GLIMPSE INTO THEIR COLLECTIVE “GENIUS”. THANK YOU FUNK BROTHERS FOR YOUR GIFTS & CONTRIBUTIONS THAT ENRICHED OUR WORLD- I LOVE & APPLAUD EACH & EVERY ONE OF YOU. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🇨🇦
The man’s gonna die in alcohol withdraw, a horrible thing. If he drinks or eats who cares? Make a moral judgement on your friend and humiliate him. I never get that.
Watching this whilst the radio played in the background. What comes on radio.... the four tops. I'm picturing these guys playing a groove to this song. Respect. RIP gentlemen.
There’s only 2 funk brothers left. 😢 The Motown sound was a big inspiration to my becoming a musician.
Unfortunately, Joe Messina has passed on April 4, 2022
Yeah only Jack Ashford is still alive.
They we're the Sound of Young America!!! Phenomenal!!!
We who truly love the early R & B Music and those Great creators of it sounds and its Male/ Female singers. We appreciate them !
Thanks
Oh! My! God! That’s Marc Anthony!!!!😋
Rest in peace, Eddie "Chank" Willis, Motown guitarist, August 20 2018
Rest in peace, Motown drummer Uriel Jones, March 24, 2009
I'm trying to understand where was the recognition during the Motown celebrations and anniversaries. Playing and creating music is the background for any project so their contributions where not paid in full???
Amazing time, incredible talent that will never be topped. Never. Without question the greatest hit machine ever. Just watch the one minute at the end of standing in the shadows when it shows all the hits. Mind boggling. So glad I grew up with Motown in the 1960s
Who's he calling a slut?
Forever Funk!!! RIP funk bro!
I wanted to sit back and just enjoy "Standing in the Shadows of Motown" but I felt sad and sort of upset when I left the theater. Had no idea they were paid so poorly and given so little recognition while creating music that still sounds as fresh and vibrant today as when it was recorded. At least it looks like they had a blast together in the studio. I saw the Motown Musical but it struck me as such a vanity project, all about Gordy and his life which was not as interesting a story as what went on inside that studio. I would give anything to have been at the recording session for the instrumentals for "My Guy" (that bass!) or "Heat Wave" (the musicians were on fire as was the entire vocal group on that one). Sometimes you could pick up on the fun the musicians were having right in the grooves of the record. The musicians sounded like they had a blast on "When the Lovelight Starts Shining Through His Eyes" , "Girl, You Need a Change of Mind", and "Ball of Confusion", among many others.
All of these men were so talented there would have never been a Motown without all of you
Gone But never forgotten
Funk brothers never got the recognition that they deserved there would not have been a Motown without them they were geniuses
Think of the jam session that is going on in heaven with all these great musicians who have passed away
I'm not crying my eyes are just full of music
A lot of pain was endured making this Motown legacy. I hope all their kids are paid. Love these guys. Such an infuential part of my musicianship.
Treated badly by Motown
Awesome commercial!
God it was some great music!
One of America's great loss's is the passing of this fabulous group of musicians! And when the remaining ones go a generation of music that was fantastic will probably be forgotten for those who made it even though much of it still gets played in adds or movies. I don't think such a gathering of this type of talent will ever be brought together like it again!
I don't like to bad mouth people, but Barry Gordy was a genius when it came to writing songs (ie wrote for Jackie WILSON) and was smart enough to gather all the local musicians who played in some of the most suscessfull jazz clubs in Detroit. As far as respecting those talented musicians now that's another story. He could have treated those beautiful gifted people like human beings and as if they were his true brethren .By first giving them the alcolates and recognition they obviously crave for and the economic potential to profit from the suscess of the Motown conglomerate that produced so many hits and brought in millions. A lot of these men and who helped put Motown on the map died impoverished and in ruin. Look how he treated the late marvin Gaye when he wanted out. He seemed to only have love for smokey Robinson and a terrible obsession with dianna Ross whom he had a child with but never married. He ruined a lot of careers for her. He could have offered stock options and allowed people who wa Ted to leave leave some dignity and some financial resources from the many millions they made Motown. But that is how most black folks treat their man. Thank the Divine Creator that someone had the idea to give recognition to these great Men/Musicians called "The Funk Brothers " May the Divine Creator be pleased with you all gentlemen and women. May ya'll find the peace riches and success in the next life which obviously you didn't get here. Ashe'.
Heroes all!! These guys were the soundtrack to my once young life.
§ OSBORN HIGH SCHOOL IN DETROIT MI. WAS BLESSED TO HAVE THE FUNK BROTHERS MR. EARL VANDYKE! MUSIC INSTRUCTOR! LEGENDS!!!
That is amazing. Im so jealous you got to spend time with Earl Van Dyke. Great story.
Gordy abandoned the Funk Brothers.
Motown treated these great men, these great musicians like slugs! God Bless them all!
GIVE IT UP FOR THE FUNK BROTHERS .
JAMES JAMERSON! When i here the bass lines to darling dear by J-5, i came home from school, i told my grandma i wanna play bass. She got me a guitar & amp, and i just took it to another level

My favorite musicians ever,RIP! This was very sad. People tend to be hard headed when it comes to health though. You gotta put down the cigs, the swine and try to stay alkaline and stop eating 3plus times a day.
